UNS Task force Against Trafficking
This task force consisted of 7 UN agencies; ILO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM, OHCHR, UNHSTF and was led by UNDP. It was a joint Initiative in the Millennium against Trafficking in Girls and Women (JIT-NEPAL) as is an innovative Programme of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MWCSW) of the Government of Nepal and the United Nations System (UNS) Task Force against Trafficking to support a pioneering initiative to reduce the incidence of trafficking in Girls and Women. This Programme was launched in November 2000.
The UNS Task Force emphasized emancipation of women as the key to sustainable development, and as a corollary, the importance of formulating practical strategies to address the root cause of trafficking that makes girls and women vulnerable to trafficking.
