Winrock International & CAC-Nepal

Between May 2005 and February 2006, Reduce Sexual Exploitation of Children through Educaton was the CAC-Nepal programme run in partnership with Winrock International Circle Project Asia, ran Non-Formal Education Classes for children vulnerable to trafficking, sexual exploitation and child labour. 100 children attended these classes in 4 centres in the Bhaktapur district. These children were sourced from various target groups such as children of sex workers, those in factories, transportation, and trafficked and migrant children. 80 children were then registered in mainstream school, the other 20 in technical schools. Currently 48 of these children continue to attend mainstream school up to SLC and will be sponsered by CAC-Nepal up until 2016. It is estimated that approx. half of the Nepali population is literate. There are marked gender disparities in literacy rates: 52% of males are literate as compared to 24% of females.Click here for the Winrock Circle Project Final Report.
