Academy for Educational Development (AED), DidiBahini & CAC-Nepal

In partnership with Academy for Educational Development (AED), CAC-Nepal worked on the PEACE Project (Peace Enabling Awareness and Conflict Transformation Enterprise) from September 2007 to February 2008. The aim of this project was to establish 4 Peace Councils in the districts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Parsa, Nuwarkot and Rauthat. CAC-Nepal focused its work in Nuwarkot and Rauthat. These councils now provide a platform for sharing conflict and cultural issues, such as gender discrimination, access to education, domestic violence, social inclusion and HIV awareness. These Peace Councils will also be used as pressure groups to lobby for social and cultural development of their communities. Each council consists of 20 youth and female members made up of both rural and urban communities and meet on a weekly basis to discuss their issues.
