As President of Community Action Centre - Nepal, I am delighted welcome you to our website and present the work that CAC-Nepal has been doing since 1993. My team and I are committed and passionate about advocating for the rights of women and children in Nepal and CAC-Nepal has played a vital role in the fight for access to education and economic empowerment for women and children and in the field of HIV and AIDS. The key to our success has been about working in partnership with local communities and national and international partners from the grassroots level to the policy level. We believe that the empowerment of those we work for and with is the key to truely sustainable economic and social development for the women and children of Nepal.

Regional Consultation for Creating a South Asia Convention on Domestic Violence was co-organised by Community Action Centre - Nepal and Centre for Social Research, New Delhi, India on 4th February 2010 at Kathmandu.
The consultation was Inaugurated by Mr. Prem Bahadur Singh, Minister for Law and Justice, Govt. of Nepal. He in his inaugural address stressed that Nepal has signed the International Treaties and is committed to providing women victims of domestic violence the opportunity to live in dignity and to realize their full potential.
Dr. Ranjana Kumari, Director, Centre for Social Research, New Delhi, India stated that India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal have already enacted laws making available civil forum and relief to domestic violence survivors. Bangladesh has a draft bill, which is set to be introduced in the upcoming parliamentary session. While Bangladesh faces a challenge in enacting a domestic violence law, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal face a challenge in implementing the domestic violence law already on the books. She further stated that "SAARC has always affirmed its commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law, which ought to have included Women Human Rights and by endorsing creation of a South Asian Charter on Domestic Violence, our regional community can provide a public affirmation of every woman's right to a violence-free life.
The consultation was also addressed by Dr. Sudha Sharma, Secretary Ministry of Health, Govt. of Nepal who in her address brought out the Medical and Psychological Implications of victims of domestic violence.
Dr. Trilochan Upreti, Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers said that the year 2010 has been declared by the govt. as National Action Plan on Gender based Violence and that the govt. He listed out various strategies and activities as contemplated under the National Action Plan.
Dr. Madhuri Singh, Founder President of SAATHI gave the historical background leading to the enactment of Domestic Violence (Offence & Punishment) Act, 2009 and Ms. Geeta Shangraula, Advocate Professor, Kathmandu School of Law presented the scope and implementation of the Act.
Mr. Soumya Bhaumik, Project Coordinator, Centre for Social Research, New Delhi, India, spoke about Access to Justice and Salient features of the Indian law on Protection of Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
The consultation was also addressed by Ms. Naina Kala Thapa, Chairperson, National Commission of Women.
Tulasa Lata Aamatya, executive director CAC Nepal emphasised the need to actively impliment the NPA and suggested formation of monitoring committee to Monitor the progress of the NPA.
The participants also felt that a Standing Committee should be constituted to monitor the progress of the National Action Plan from Human Rights Based approach.
On February 3, 2010, CAC-Nepal celebrated its 17th Anniversary at Hotel Shangri-La attended by its Founder Members, Board Members, guests and staff.
Each year CAC-Nepal has been presenting an "Outstanding Award" for best performance of its staff. This year Ms. Sita Koirala, Counselor, Mr. Rabindra Raj Bhandari, Outreach Educator, were awarded for their outstanding performance in their respective jobs. CAC-Nepal presented a "Token of Appreciation" to Mr. Prakash Shrestha of B.B. Trade Links and Mr. Ramesh Giri, Journalist RSS for their contributions and support. Respective Board Members of CAC-Nepal Secretary General Ms. Anila Shrestha, Vice-Chair Ms. Laxmi Pradhan, Joint secretary Mr. Suraj Bhattarai for their untiring contribution in CAC-Nepal.

Major Achievements
Since October 2006, we have identified and supported 3,741 Female Sex Workers. Over 1,900 women and clients have accessed out Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) services and 990 people have availed of our Voluntary Counselling and Testing services (VCT). service. We have distributed 106, 244 condoms. We have distributed over 25,600 HIV and AIDS/STI related education materials.
